I am in love with this bug spray!! I hate bugs. They are such a nuisance to life and being able to enjoy the outdoors. Not being a "Mainer" and only moving here 4 years ago - I am NOT used to the black flies. I have been on a mission to conquer those swarming pests and I feel like I have finally found a solution in this spray. Most bug sprays rely on Citronella and Lemongrass which are great for mosquitos but do absolutely nothing for flies. This spray not only works on Black Flies but also Ticks, Mosquitos and No-See-Ums!
 
The second best part... it smells amazing! Sometimes I would almost rather get bit by bugs than have to smell like bug spray all day. Especially on the farm where we go outside for a short time to work on something and then come in, and then go out, and then come in. =)  Compared to cintronella sprays - I could wear this bug spray like perfume it is that good! 
 
OK... now for the nitty gritty. I made this to work - so it has a very high concentration of essential oils. So definitely patch test if you have sensitive skin or young kids. It might be best to start by spraying on your clothes - especially for young kids. The smell is strong, but it does dissipate. I do use peppermint in this spray. That is part of the reason it works on flies. So... you might feel a cooling sensation on your skin. 
 
There is conflicting information on the internet as to whether or not the essential oils used in this spray are good for dogs. Some say "Yes" and others say "No"! From what I have read, when it comes to dogs - spray some on yourself and let the dog sniff it. If they react to it, don't use it - if they don't, go ahead and try it in small amounts. If in doubt - don't.
